Regulations on Seed Export

 

 

Export: 
 
  1. Seeds have to be tested to see how pure they are before being exported.
     
  2. The seeds have to be certified by one of the categories in OECD ( the document has to also meet the requirements of the country of import)
     
  3. Previous cropping (land use) is a minimum of three years to produce Certified status seed , so they can use the same land to make new crops.            
                                                                                                       
  4. When labelling the batches of seeds, you will have to have a official seed sampler to watch over you, and they will request a document which suggests the country of origin (New Zealand) 
     
  5. Two or more lots of seed of the same variety may be blended, inspected, and sealed under OECD Certified status. Blending must be done in such a way that the new lot is homogeneous.
     
  6. In addition to varietal purity, the EU has established mechanical purity, germination and, in some cases, disease standards for seed marketed in the EU. The conformity assessment is made by conducting a seed test pursuant to the ISTA(accepted by NZ) Rules. The Biosecurity New Zealand seed laboratory will notify the official seed sampler and the company if the seed lot does not meet the EC standard for mechanical purity and germination as well as disease standards where they apply. Pedigreed seed that meets the EU standards and has been produced, packaged, and labelled according to the Directives can bear the EC rules and standards statement.

 

Inspections: (includes both packaging and product)
 
  1. Atleast inspect the product twice using the same or different inspection mythology.
     
  2. Inspections are undertaken utilising facilities and equipment specified by the importing country and in addition to ;  a minimum of 1000 lux at the place of which the product is held for inspection, the equipment used for utilising is properly maintained and callibrated, also inspect the prodocut for pests.
     
  3. If pests are discovered to be in the seeds then you have to use a process that eliminates or removes the quarantine pest from the lot with  the subsequent new lot being subjected to an inspection; or  treatment by an approved person/s.
     
  4. Each country has a different standard to go through you will have to go through mpi.govt.nz/exports , to check for a specific country.
