The Arable seed exports are not only to the top ten countries but are sent to 100 countries around the world. New Zealand produces a large percentage of the world's carrot (65%), radish (55%), beet (50%) and white clover seeds (50%).
The graph shown above is showing the Arable Seed Export Values from 2001-2019. Looking at forecast for export values for the future we can see there is a postitive future for the arable seed industry having an increase in export value from 2015.
"New Zealand is a world leader in seed multiplication" states MPI (2015). The arable industry is ambitiously looking for a 50% increase in production by 2025. This is said to be acheived by having production efficiencies, having new crops, specialty products, good marketing initiatives and an irrigation investment.
In order for the arable seeds to be exported to the different countries around the world, there are many specific processes and regulations needed to export them safely, which can be seen on processes and regulations page.
Revenue:
The Ministry of Primary Industries (2015) found that the revenue for seed export has decreased by 14.6% from the previous year to June 2015. This was said to have followed a historic high earning period in the previous year and 13% decrease in average prices. By the year ending June 2019 the Arable export revenue is predicted to reach a value of $230 million. This increase is due to the increasing volumes of export of vegetable and non-pasture seeds (MPI, 2015). MPI (2015) have also found that the export revenues of the Arable seed have grown 7 percent each year from years June 2001 to June 2015.
